You'll have to pardon Jeff Pearlman. He wrote on his blog -- really interesting stuff, by the way, an everyday stop for me -- about discovering an old Astros-Padres game in which "Dale Berra (lifetime average: .236) started at short, then was replaced mid-game by Buddy Biancalana (lifetime average: .205)."
He then writes this: "I challenge any baseball historians to come up with a game where two more feeble players manned a single position."
Like I say, you'll have to pardon him. He represents this segment of the population that is blissfully unaware of what Royals fans live every day, who has no idea that you need not be a historian, but someone who can remember earlier this week, when Luis Hernandez (.219 this season, .256 lifetime) started at short, then was replaced by Tony Pena Jr. (.097 this season, .231 lifetime)*.
* Actually, Hernandez's lifetime average is way higher than I would've expected. But if you want to get geeky with it, Hernandez's OPS+ is 54 lifetime and 31 this season. Pena's at 46 lifetime and -- if there are any children reading this , please skip to the next paragraph -- -24 this season. Seriously. Twenty-four below zero. Negative twenty four**. Like an angry Jack Bauer.
Berra is at 76 lifetime and 48 in 1987, with Biancalana at 51 lifetime and 3 in 1987 (though at a very impressive -66 in his short time with Houston).
** Pena does, though, still have the argument as best designated hitter of all-time. Because of a pinch runner and extra innings and the amusement of the baseball gods, Pena once got two at bats as DH, and went 2-for-2 with a walk-off single. Maybe his managers have just been misusing him.
Anyway, I think you'll agree that when you adjust for era and all that, the Royals have a MUCH more feeble combination of players manning the shortstop position.
Even so, it probably is fitting that Pearlman's eye-opener involves Biancalana, who was drafted and raised by the Royals before spending a short part of the 1987 season with Houston.
Wherever there is feeble offense, chanes are the Royals will be there.

when TPJ started the game only for Luis (Big Masher) Hernandez to pinch hit for him in the 9th inning! Bonus points awarded because Teahen and Jacobs were both on the bench unused and had both homered off of Wood in at bats earlier in the season
